i was almost stung by jellyfish once. and yes, they can be quite hypnotic.

When I was in the northwest (Washington state and British Columbia), I saw so many different kinds of jellyfish. Huge ones approximately 14" in diameter washed up on the shore and little ones no more than 2" in diameter surrounding our boat... thousands of them. Watching them is so calming. Touching them, however, is not recommended. Unless you are the Roaming Gnome... he finds them 'perfectly kissable'.

I heard an NPR presentation about Moog on the day he died and it was very interesting. He was not only extremely intelligent but a very interesting man as well.

anne: i love jellyfish, they seem so alien. although i admit to a reluctance to go swimming when they're scattered about the beach in ranks. i don't like it when they touch my legs.

transience: they lure unsuspecting women into the sea with their hypnotic powers. like the sirens only for girls.

livewire: pardon? who is the Roaming Gnome, & why is he kissing jellyfish?

carl v: i have the utmost respect for mr. moog, being surrounded most of my life by musicians making strange noises. he's brilliant. we should make him a doctor, honorarily, as it were.
RIP, Dr. Moog.

that vanishing point map, which no one has commented on, demonstrates the relative global visibility of regions.

i thought it was illuminating.

lol... He's the Travelocity 'mascot'... =) Just a simple concrete garden gnome but they have a british voiceover and he does tv and radio spots. Quite fun, actually.

ah, that gnome. finds jellyfish kissable?
i guess if you're already made of stone...

for the record, i always felt that was a blatant Amelie rip-off. but that's just me. it's not the gnome's fault, though.
