a few words about today's catch of the day

If you'll notice on the side-bar I added a section called "catch of the day", which will most likely change every day. I wanted to say a few things about today's catch: The Puffer Fish.

Not only will this amazing fish help us to better understand the human genome but the toxin in its skin can help ease pain in cancer patients. For more information see:

oooh. creepy puffer fish. i dig this; you should throw your current interests etc. up there too ('s just mine at the moment).

when i was little i collected sea shells & creatures & whatnot, & since i lived in a shore town there were lots of those little shops that sell shells too exotic to be found in NJ, & i had no qualms about this sort of cheating.
for some reason these places always sold those artificially-dried-out blowfish & whatnot as well. i could never imaging what anyone would want with one, unless they were an alchemist or witch.

Any time I hear the puffer fish mentioned I think of that movie "The Blue Lagoon" with Brooke Shields in it as a child. I think it qualifies as kiddie porn these days, but I was a kid the last time I saw it, so I guess that's okay. Then I think of the Simpsons episode where Homer eats puffer fish at a sushi restaurant and almost dies.

It seems my understanding of the natural world revolves around movies and television. Kinda sad, but at least I've heard of the puffer fish, right?

Weird. I just left a post and the number of comments didn't go up on the front page, but my comment is still here. I am going to repost it to see if it works this time:
